June 7, 2011. Rivergate Software has released BluStreak Tracer 2 and BluStreak Tracer 2 CMF, an upgrade and replacement for its previous product BluStreak Premaster.

DVDAfterEdit Standard and Mastering Edition run best on Macintosh OS 10.4 (Tiger).

OS 10.5 (Leopard) removed support for some older dialog callbacks used by the Import/Replace VTS functions. The following work-around overcomes this problem:

Instead of opening a VIDEO_TS folder from within the application, click and drag the VIDEO_TS folder to the application file (either Standard or Mastering Edition). The application will perform correctly thereafter.

OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard) also requires the above work-around. In addition, you must be sure to install PPC emulation (Rosetta), as it is now optional. For preview, you must also install the optional QuickTime 7, and you will have to reinstall the QuickTime MPEG2 component.

Snow Leopard has also removed support for parallel SCSI, required for DLT. All legitimate replicators now support DDP folders (Tape Images) on hard drive or DVD-R data discs.

Lion removes all support for PPC, and will not be capable of running DVDAfterEdit.

We recommend setting aside a Tiger boot disc or partition for best operation of DVDAfterEdit Mastering Edition.

DVDAfterEdit Mastering Edition 3.0.5d3 Released

DVDAfterEdit 3.0.5d3 Mastering Edition is available for download. This fixes an error in the placement of the AVDP (Anchor Volume Descriptor Pointer) at the end of the disc when building a DDP tape image (AKA Plant Direct) for CSS encryption. (It was misaligned in the sector). This error does not normally affect playability, but prevented Macrovision RipGuard from being applied.

Rivergate Software is pleased to announce the release of DDPAfterBurner, a new stand-alone utility for managing DDP Images on DLT (Digital Linear Tape). DDPAfterBurner is priced at $199 as a stand-alone utility, and at $99 for owners of HDAfterEdit using a coupon available here.

DDPAfterBurner (DDPAB) is a functional demo version that can be purchased and registered from within the program, and is available for download here.

Mac Pro, ATTO UL5D, OS 10.4.10, 10.5.1 Works Fine

The ATTO UL5D, ATTO 4.20 driver, Mac Pro, and Leopard 10.5.1 are working fine with the all four of our tape drives connected at the same time, including the DLT8000, on both DVDAfterEdit and the new tape utility which we are developing.

Deja Vrooom approved for release

Well, after 3 months of testing by the band, the new version of King Crimson's Deja Vrooom- my favourite DVDAE post-authoring project to date - has been given the green light and the DLTs have gone off to be pressed - three years after I was first asked to be involved !

Last year at NAB HD was all the rage - There were huge screens everywhere, and even an indoor movie theater which showed content at 4X HD - the detail was phenominal.

This year it was more practical - the overriding application was how to deliver HD content over the air. To those of us in DVD authoring, it is sobering to see what a small part of the big picture we are. Yet by far the liveliest venues were on the first floor at South Hall, where most the the tiny startup companies and other larger software vendors exhibit.

DVDAfterEdit 3.0.5d1 Released

This development release fixes an error which prevented opening Sonic "Plant Direct" DLT or Tape Images. Thanks to Stevey K for discovering this and sending me an image that enabled me to find and fix the problem.

This is a "development" or interim release, but no other changes were made so the remainder of the program should function as before.

DVDAfterEdit is featured in the New Gear section of the July issue of Videomaker Magazine.

Slowly but surely we are getting the word out. The article was written before we lowered the price of Mastering Edition, so readers who get to the web site should be pleasantly surprised.

According to Videomaker's media planner (yes, we are placing small ads starting in August) "More than half of Videomaker subscribers make use of video in their occupation". An audited report states that it reaches over 65,000 readers per month.
