Hi guys. I am having a major issue with a disc I am trying to re-author in DVDAfterEdit. I have a project with multiple VTSs. One contains a single PGC with the feature and the others contain several PGCs for individual play and 'play all' versions of certain bonus features.
The disc plays fine in most software and set-top players, however at least one player has problems if you skip forward past the last chapter. Normally players just don't let you go any further once you are on the last chapter unless a 'Next PGC Number' is set. With this player however it skips to the next PGC on the disc (even if it is in a new VTS). Or what appears to be the next PGC, except that it has a strange title and chapter number (not what appears when playing that same PGC in the normal fashion) and judging by it behaviour it seems it has not executed any of the pre-commands set for that PGC.
Some of the PGCs have 'Next PGC Number' set and function properly on this player. I decided to try setting a dummy PGC for all of the PGCs in the project (one in each VTS) which simply called the root menu for that VTS so that if you advanced past the end it would simply return to the menu. This is not ideally what I want because it means that all the players that were working properly now allow you to keep advancing and return to the menu rather than simply stop advancement at the last chapter.
Also in another strange twist there is now a strange problem with the PGC containing the feature. For some reason it does not seem to display chapter numbers when skipping through it. Other players do this fine and other PGCs such as the 'Play All' versions of the bonus features do it fine on the same player, but for some reason the feature is lacking numbers at all (however the chapter points are still valid). I can not find any significant difference between the feature PGC and the others.
Please provide me with any information and help you can. This disc is set to have a first pressing of 60,000 - 100,000 units and be carried by all the Blockbuster stores across the U.S., so the pressure is on!
Thanks guys.
PS: Problem player is a Sony DVP-NS63P.
Pierre-Luc is correct
When setting Next PGC, most players won't show the running time (and the chapter number, if I recall). So you better use what Danny suggested as this is what we mostly do in that case. Or you could just block UOP's (128 - Next PG) for the last chapter.
Pierre-Luc is correct - only "one_sequential" PGCs accurately show timing and chapter info in all players, however in one_sequential PGCs the Next/Prev and GoUp must all equal zero.

PLAYER ISSUE
Hallo adam,
I know, a few stand-alone-player do not working properly within the DVD-specs, so you can skip or scroll over the last chapter to the next PGC or VTS.
You can use a workarround:
just make the film 2sek. longer (black at the end + silence-audio) and set an chapter-marker at the end of it, but take care, it has to be at least 1-1 1/2 sec. away from the end of the track.
then you have to go to the UOPs and disable the skip-forward-funcion and the scroll-forward-function, so the user HAVE to stay in the PGC and can´t jump over the end.
this worked for me. at least I´m creating every new DVD-project this way to fall not into this problem.
