any news arround HD-afteredit or out of the woodshed?

hi everybody,
it´s been a while since larry announced the mission-statement.

since apple haven´t announced a new version of DVD SP incl. BD-authoring, I´m really looking forward to see a working BD-solution for mac ONLY.

I tested a lot software in the last few month (especially WINDOWS-software), but all of them not working properly or you have to trickle arround it, to get it working.

It is painfull to see, that there is no GOOD solution besides sonic or sony, even netblender not seems to be an alternative to me.

Another point is, there is no working BD-h.264-encoder for mac (at the moment), so I would like to have a light at the end of the tunnel. encore is not a professional solution for me.

it is awfull to see, that you have to pay a lot money on it to get a (good) working BD-solution, and the only good-pricing encoder (mainconcept) is not creating spec-correct AVC and VC1-streams. I have been tould, this is the reason why they haven´t announced the mac-version of it, yet.

So, could you please give me an information, what´s going on at rivergate at the moment? I guess your solution could be my favourite one!

THX in special

Danny

We're coming out of the woodshed, in good shape

Hi Danny,

Yes, we'll be announcing something before too much longer. We're waiting until we have a minimum useful feature set that works perfectly.

Larry

Hi Danny, Thanks for the

Hi Danny,

Thanks for the feedback, good to hear we have an affordable option. Yes, I'm interested to hear your comments about Netblender, I haven't used it since it was HD DVD only. Feel free to email me privately if you prefer:

Hallo Ian,

Hallo Ian,
REFERENCE for MAC is a good deal, and the 20%-OFF-sale is ending today!

So, if your interrested to buy, then get it today!

You´re getting a special price, when you have an old MCCoder-Licence (but you have to get in contact with the Director Sales Europe, Mr. Jonas (stefan.jonas( at )mainconcept.de) .Maybe you get another 30%-OFF, that means half regular price, as I did.

I bought the AVC PRO-, and the MPEG-Plugins.

The Quality is very good, as I could see so far ( haven´t made a 2-pass encoding yet). I have one special clip, with lot details in it ( swarm of birds, fits to fullscreen) and a cam-move into the ocean, shot in uncompressed 8bit 1080i50.

I encoded this clip a few weeks ago to MPEG2HD at very high bitrate (30-35MBit), and what should I say, loose of detail and blocking artefacts in both sceens.

now, with AVC it´s amaseingly good! no artefacts, no loose of details. even when the cam is going under water you could see every detail and the bitrate never gets higher than 26MBit, maybe it could be higher, but I made another test with higer bitrates and it never got higher than these 26MBit.

encoding on a 4core 2,66GHz Intel-Mac you get a time-result by 1:4 and on a 8core 2,88Ghz your getting 1:3.

Well, the GUI is still a little bit buggy, but no major bug in it. You could set set additional I-Frames. I haven´t find out yet, how to import FCP/quicktime-chaptermarker! maybe it is not possible at the moment!

So my conclusion is, that REFERENC will be the first (and for this moment the only) choice for MAC-user to encode BD-spec-compliant AVC or VC-1 files.

even adobe is using the mainconcept-engine within encore.

HAPPYLY

danny

PS: what exactly do you meen with netblender? would you like to know my opinion about netblender?

Hi Danny, How are you

Hi Danny,

How are you finding the quality and workflow with Reference ? Also, would you like to share your comments on DoStudio ?

REFERENCE for MAC available

Hallo Larry,
Mainconcept announced Reference for MAC today!

http://www.mainconcept.com/site/prosumer-products-4/mainconcept-referenc...

It could encode AVC-files and surprisingly VC-1, too.

After a few tests with it, it is clear, that it´s working correct and creating spec-complient VC-1 and AVC-streams with PAL-frame-rates!

HERE WE ARE, professional BD-encoding on a MAC :)

happy danny ;)

We're trying to bring the

We're trying to bring the pieces together. We have spun off a new version of HDAfterEdit for Blu-ray only, but it's interface is still very "raw". We have a PG stream editor that we have developed for MX. We are also taking a look at MainConcepts and other encoding solutions.

So yes, eventually we will release a new HDAfterEdit, perhaps renaming it to BDAfterEdit. If the right pieces come together, it may be sooner rather than later, for at least an alpha release. We'll keep you posted.

Regards,

Larry

Will there be a new release of HDAfterEdit within the next time?

Hi Larry,
is there a new HDAfterEdit-release (alpha or beta) in sight? Or is it completly put on hold and your are prior working on the BD-stand-alone- solution?

I have been told from the mainconcept-support that they should release the Reference for MAC within the last 2 weeks, but there is a major bug in it ( as I tested in the WIN-version, creating AVC and VC-1-streams, they are not BD-spec-correct ). So I guess it will be just a matter of time until it will be available.

I hope this will be soon.

cheers

Danny

SD DVD

Yes, Jake, they are on hold.

SD DVD

Are the SD Features of the new interface on hold too?

Cheers,
Jake

Encoding and Multiplexing are the most important

Hi Danny,

The current consumer applications, on both PC & Mac, do not provide any way to use assets encoded with a professional encoder. As you say, this takes them completely out of the picture as a professional solution. This means we do not yet have a useful "before", such as DVD Studio Pro, on which to build an "after" like DVDAfterEdit.

For these reasons we are putting our efforts into finding a viable encoding solution, and building our own multiplexor. Fancy interactivity must wait for a solid base on which to build it.

Regards,

Larry
