The forums were fairly heavily spammed this moring, we've cleaned up the mess and blocked the spammer's IP, but if the attacks continue we may have to close the forums for maintainance.
I didn't realize anonymous posts were even allowed. According to the forum home page you either need to register for the pre-sales forum or own software to post everywhere else.
The Captcha module ( where Anonymous users have to enter a code from an image in order to post ) is in place and up to date, so at this point we're not sure if there is a security vulnerability or if someone posted all the spam by hand. We have a few maintenance updates pending, but they take time away from developing the new apps, and require a full update in case something unexpected happens.
Barry tells me closing the forums wouldn't be necessary, we can just block anonymous posts, so it looks like we can keep the sledgehammer in the cupboard for now.
Closing the forums seems like a sledgehammer approach. There must be ways to prevent this otherwise we'd be seeing spamming like this everywhere on the web. Wouldn't the folks who make the software used for the forums have a solution already? Have they been contacted?
Cool...

Death to anonymous! ;->

Doing what we can
