Layer break set wrong on Eclipse report

Just sent a dual layer project on DLT to a replicators that we have never used before and had an Eclipse report saying that the Seamless playback has not been set correctly (see attached images). Just checked the build in DVDAfter Edit and it tells me it is set as Non Seamless so not sure what this report means... Should I be worried? Send a new set of DLTs? We done loads of Dual layer projects before and never had a problem...

Layer Breaks in HDAfterEdit

When working with HDAfterEdit there are going to be several was to view breaks. Not all are implemented in the version posted, but most will be in the upcoming release. In the Disc Overview window the layer breaks are shown with text above a slider to change the break. The text is color coded. Green is assigned to the best places to break, for example on an IFO file, followed by white (non-seamless) and then red. Red means that it is a seamless cell. We'll probably have a color key or tooltips in a future release.

The actual layer break cell is displayed in the side drawer in the browser when you are browsing a PGC. It is marked in bold style and other cells have style and color variations to denote if they are within range of a possible break. From the PGC browser you can inspect all of the Cell Play flags and settings.

We also plan to put a flag on the left hand side of the browser showing where to find the PGCs affected by the break just like in DVDAE 3.0.

A slight change as to how breaks will be handled. In HDAfterEdit the Cell Play settings are left exactly as read from the image, disc or folder. In the upcoming release version, setting a new layer break will force the cell to be non-seamless as required by the specification, but it's original settings will be backed up and can be restored whenever a different break is chosen. (or undo causes a revert to a previous layer break). This is a little different than 3.0 "Reset Seamless Playback To Rule" in that we will restore the settings that the cell received from the authoring system. Of course there will still be a "Set Seamless Playback To Rule" command available.

Also since HDAfterEdit is project based it saves new settings in its project file and never touches your original assets. When the time comes to write the DDP it is generated by combining the project settings with the original files and generating the new ones . So there should never be an issue of change that didn't "stick".

And we are also open to hear any ideas, which you can send from within the program if you wish, or from the website Contact page or right here in the forums.

HD AfterEdit

By the way. How do you locate layer break info in HDAfter Edit to confirm whether seamless or non...

Thanks

Hi Larry

Found a thread on here that seemed to describe the self same scenario I have come across (and funnily enough the report was fom the same replicators). So I followed some of the advise given (deleting projects prefs etc..Renaming folder and re-opening etc.) So it seems that good working practice when doing a disc with layer break would be to open the project, locate and choose the layer break (a lot of these projects we are doing are very tight on the layer break location). Then save, close and re-open project before writing set of DLTs. If the message re: setting a flag to non seamless comes up you know that the layer break chosen didn't "stick" as it were...

I am going to send a new set of DLTs and cross ye olde fingers.

Steve

Please check the log file

Hi Stevey,

There is a complicated situation where it is possible to fail to write a DVDAfterEdit VIDEO_TS folder back when there is no seamless cell for the layer break. You should be able to find the log file in your user name/library/preferences, identified by the date and time it was written. If it says that the cell it chose as the layer break was marked non-seamless because it is the chosen layer break, you must be sure to save the project before quitting, or if you open it later it will think that the layer break was already changed. This is a flaw in DVDAE that I tried to fix a few months ago, but it proved to have too many other repercussions.

Yes, you should not master a DVD with a seamless cell as the layer break. DVDAE will always choose a non-seamless cell if there is one in the layer break range.

Since you own HDAfterEdit, if you still have the original VIDEO_TS folder you can open it in that program and see what it says about the cell in question. And please send the log to support@dvdafteredit.com if you can find it.

Regards,

Larry
