"Format War" far from over

I expect most people have seen this already, but just as it seemed BD was getting ahead in the retail/rental areas, Paramount & Dreamworks Animation have dropped their support of the Blu-Ray format, which means all of this will drag on even longer than before...

Great Format War analysis

There is some great commentary on the Format War here on the excellent DVD Intelligence site.

One very good point I hadn't seen made before - because authoring for both standards coule mean almost double the cost, the likelihood is that dual-format releases will use exactly the same video encodes. Which means the Blu releases won't be able to take advantage of the extra quality the higher BD capacity might offer, unfortunately.
