Report generation

Hi Ian,

- Report generation (.txt file) like Creator does when you read a DLT.

If you enable the logs in the Mastering Prefs, does this give you what you need ?

Na I don't think so but you might educate me. As far as I know the Log text file is just a list of what you see in the Log. Sector changes, Region 7 warnings etc. In Creator I can take any DLT from the Plant or wherever and generate a DDP report so I'll know what is on the Tape, when it was created, what layer, Region info and a bunch of other stuff. This is very handy,

Jake

Playing the devil's advocate...

First off, every replicator's form asks for different stuff and often what they ask for seems relatively arbitrary and/or makes little sense if you are authoring anything besides a feature length DVD.

On the other hand, everything they ask for and more can be had when they run Eclipse or MEI on the DLTs.

And finally, I've filled these forms out and when something I've specified should have been on the DLT wasn't (CSS in this case), the replicator (someone very well known in Southern California) made glass masters anyway i.e. they didn't bother comparing the form I filled out with the verification report - or at least very closely. The problem was caught only when the proof discs were sent to a 3rd party testing service.

So, net-net, I see little value in making something like this a feature of the program. The only thing that will spare me the labor of filling out replicator forms is if the replicator's stop insisting on them.

A bit more than 2c. ;->

Oh I see, you mean to

Oh I see, you mean to automate producing the info that replicators like Deluxe ask for ? Fair enough. Maybe if you can post an example so everyone can see what you're talking about and then vote if they like the idea ? It's been so long since I wrote a DLT with Creator I wouldn't know where to look for mine ;-)
