DLT compare fails on correctly written tapes

We are trying to compare some freshly written DLTs to the source folder. It fails with the message below. There is a mention of a .DS_Store file, is it possible that the folder compare is not taking one of these into account ?

Always select the folder as the source

Sorry, we should have taken the other direction out of the interface, but never got around to it.

Larry

Larry - Was there EVER a solution for this found?

It is causing me no end of grief trying to verify DLTs written for my clients replication runs

Confirmed Issue

Hi Ian,

Yes, thanks for all the research. It should be relatively easy to fix when we get to it.

Regards,

Larry

Confirmed issue

OK i've now reproduced this on a second system - G4, OS 10.2.8, Adaptec 2930 ( fully working ! )

It is only a problem with DVD-9s in my testing. The issue is that whenever the Source of a compare is a DLT tape, a Compare will fail even though the tapes are good. If the DLT is the destination, the Compare completes successfully.

Larry, should I add this to the known issues list ?

More Information

Having experimented some more, it seems the behaviour is this:

With a correctly-written ( afaik ) pair of DLTs - ie, a DVD9

Compare Source:Folder to Destination: DLT - SUCCEEDS
Compare Source:DLT to Destination:Image - FAILS
Compare Source:DLT to Destination:Folder - FAILS

I assume therefore that

Compare Source:Folder to Destination: DLT

will also succeed, but haven't had time to check yet.

I see this with both 3.02 and 3.04d2. Please can anyone verify this for me, or is it a quirk of this setup ?

Thanks

Ian

NAB

Hi Ian,

I'm at NAB, it's a whirlwind. Will take a look when I get back on Thursday.

Interra errors

The disc has been analysed in an Interra Surveyor and shows the follwing errors:

1 Error No. 59 Error Name: F-VOL-2-020 Severity: Minor Error in: Volume Structure(VOL)
Error: Error in disk image format in the DVD volume information
Location:
Logical: DIF(Logical Sector 16,Byte Offset 80)
Description: Invalid Value For Volume Space Size in CDROMVolumeDescriptor -> Expected 3651327

2 Error No. 198 Error Name: F-FILE-2-059 Severity: Minor Error in: File Structure(FILE)
Error: Error in disk image format in the directory/file structure
Location:
Logical: DIF(Logical Sector 257,Byte Offset 42)
Description: Actual Length Of Path Table Doesn't Match Path Table Size in CDROM Volume Descriptor

Presumably this is because the option to include Mac ROM data was enabled even though there is no ROM content on the disc ?

Larry, can you shed any

Larry, can you shed any light on this error message please ? The doubt cast by the failed compare is holding us up from running about 50 DLTs on a major release.

I have restored the DLTs and used a file comparison utility to confirm that all the VOB & IFO files are good, however the compare still fails. I have also tried unchecking the "Include Mac ROM Data" option in case the .DS_Store files were confusing the issue but with the same result. Using disc images as an interim doesn't help, either.

This is using 3.04d2 on a G5 with a DLT 7000 and ATTO card w/ correct drivers.

Ian

Thanks Michael

I tried this but it didn't help. I'll try some tests using disc images instead to see if that helps.

Cheers,

Ian

Exit and re-run compare?

Ian - Did you try just exiting, restarting, and running the compare again? I've had a number of failed compares succeed on the second attempt.
